“Jesus said ‘love your enemies’. . . I think this includes not killing them.”

Acctually (at the risk or overstating my point), the bible calls God a warrior, which is also translated as “Man of War” depending on which translation you use.

Hate to disagree, but
Ps 144:1
Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
Who trains my hands for war,
And my fingers for battle;
NASU
War isn’t unbiblical, there is a time for everything. It’s not pretty, it’s not something to be sought after, but it’s not unbiblical. It’s a big mistake to think that everything that the Bible says that people themselves should do are the same things that it says governments have the right to do. For instance, the bible says killing is wrong, BUT it says that the death pentalty is right (it also says that killing to protect yourself is ok). I know not everyone will agree with me, but I don’t think we should distort the Bible.

I went to the store the other day and purchased items to create my own ghetto bumpersticker of Ecclesiastes 9:18 (I think it is 18 … anyway it is the last verse of the chapter) which says “Wisdom is more powerful than weapons of war.”

hey. i liked the “bumper sticker”. another thought provoking slogan i saw on a sign held by a little girl sitting on a curb during a protest went something like, “what would Jesus bomb?” along the same lines and certainly thought provoking if not explanatory of what it really means to love your enemies, your neighbor as oneself. thanks for sharing, that’s encouraging.

I misspelled pedastal. I feel stupid.

RYC: I agree that missionaries should not be put on pedastools. No one should. However, it’s a bit naive that some think all callings are equally difficult. Missionaries sacrifice a great deal more of comfort than most followers of Jesus, and that’s why I felt so full of gratitude that night. I have many friends who are MK’s, and they certainly would not call their lives deprived or harder, so I don’t think these are super humans or should be treated as more important. But I have no problem with saying that following Christ to plant a church in the U.S. (my heart at this moment) is much easier than following Christ to plant a church in Sudan.

Hey, I didn’t know Steve Buscemi was in that movie! I have an odd affinity for him, I don’t know why…
Good bumper sticker, for sure! Let’s make t-shirts or something. :-D
