I am an Orthodox Christian and our Lent begins on Monday March 6th; with Clean Monday. I will be doing “a walk through Lent, Holy Week and Pascha(Easter) on my blog if anyone is interested. I also have a message board http://www.orthodoxchat.com where everyone is invited to ask questions.
I was raised Methodist, so it has some significance there, but I def. think that Lent & Ash Wed. can be taken into context to remember the death & resurrection of our Savior. Yesterday, as my pastor drew on the cross w/ his finger & black ash, I closed my eyes & truly tried to feel the shape of the cross on my forehead, & thought about its symbolism & about our Lord’s sacrifice for us all, & about the beauty of His rising. :)
I generally observe lent (at least I have been recently), but this year I don’t know. I kind of feel like I should fast xanga, but oh, I’m just not willing to do that right at the moment. I guess that says a lot, huh? Do you think it would count if I did half xanga and half caffeine or something?
Good question, a few years ago I observed Lent for the first time, I gave up beef & pork…a difficult thing to do as I love these meats…I got cravings for them and when I’d think about them, and remember why I wasn’t eating them it made me think about the even greater sacrifice Jesus made for me, it was a good thing and a challenging thing. I might do something like that again, but I don’t think I will this year, maybe next year…
The humorous thing was on Easter, I went to a German restaurant buffet, with lots of excellent meat, and ate lots of it…I ended up totally sleepy afterwards, I think I might have overdone it.
