The trouble with dorms

This is past the point of ridiculous. In the last 14 days the fire alarm has sounded approximately 7 times. Last night I was forced to wake up at 1am to go stand in the cold while the porter ran from building to building typing in his magical code that makes the shreeking sirens disappear. Unbelievably I woke up to it happening again 7hrs later and decided I just couldn’t be bothered to get out of my bed one more time for a false alarm, so I shoved my fingers in my ears and rolled over.

We’ve all become so accustomed to the drill that no one buys it anymore – we know there is no fire, someone is just smoking in their room again.

…however, in a twisted irony of fate, now that we’ve all become apathetic and distrustful of the sounding alarm, a real fire will undoubtedly occur and we’ll all be burned alive.

i remember the same thing with car alarms at suny @ stony brook. after a while, you just tune it out, all the while someone is ripping off somebody else’s car…. the joys of dorm life.  :-S

I was going to say…you’re probably going to die in a fire, but at least you’ll sleep through it.

God forbid! But I know what you mean. We have so many drills at school, the kids disregard the sirens, except as an excuse to get out of class for 15 minutes. Blah.
