It happened tonight!!

Today was my 24th birthday… and while I enjoy all things birthday related, what happened at the end of the night managed to pale in comparison to any birthday, gift, or otherwise. Through a very crafty, tricky serious of events – Nick managed to get me from his house (where we had my birthday party with his family), to a pub downtown with a couple of friends & his brother Chris, and then… while I thought we were walking back to our cars to go off & go home – we were actually headed straight to the little park where he had told me he loved me for the first time. Since it was precisely in the direction of the car I didn’t think anything of it until he got down on one knee…. honestly, even at that moment I didn’t believe it because he’s joked around before…. but then I saw the cameraman (Nick’s friend Rob seemingly popped out of nowhere to videotape the moment)… and then I knew it was the real deal! =) And of course I said YES.

It was everything I had hoped it’d be… I’m an incredibly lucky girl! Oh & the ring is gorgeous!

Things are going well… I love my job – LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I’m working for a film & production company called Purple Onion… although technically I work on the Civilian Edit side of things. I’m in Operations, which just means I do some secretarial work and some technical work, such as digitizing or transferring from Digi Beta to Beta SP – things like that. As my repertoire grows & I get more familiar with the equipment and the programs I’ll just keep adding things to my job description. The guys (& one lady) are some of the friendliest co-workers I’ve ever come across… they’re the kind of people I would hope to be associated with – hilarious and incredibly talented.

Everyone I tell about my job environment (the yummy free lunches, the fully stocked kitchen & bar, the health/dental benefits, the laid back employees) …well they just sort of look at me like I’m the luckiest person in the world. And I have to admit I sort of feel that way.

In other news – I was recently invited to be an official YouTube/Google partner. What’s that mean? At this point it’s an invite-only gig and I’m not usually pretentious enough to think I’m all that special. So I’m contemplating whether or not to bite. Perhaps I’ll just watch and wait…

I have this week off to finish up my dissertation – something that will be done by next week… so I’m sitting here at Barnes & Noble taking a break from the madness that is my dissertation topic.

Are you lonely too?

Meeting people in person vs. online… also, I’m wondering why we’re all afraid to approach each other.

New beginnings

Tomorrow (or rather today) I start my new job! It’s at a local up-and-coming film company and it wouldn’t have happened had I not become passionate about production due to my YouTube account. It’s been a strange ride and I’m not sure where all these open doors are ultimately leading… but I just keep walking through them one at a time.

I sat next to a CBS correspondent on my flight home from the debate and we chatted for an hour about the future of television and politics… I got to hear some amazing stories from his foreign correspondence gigs that often took him to the Middle East for extended visits. I gave him my card (something I’d created & printed before the debate for just such an occasion), which had my site on it and told him to check out my videos and let me know what he thought. A couple of days later he sent me an e-mail encouraging me to pursue broadcasting – something that could combine my love of politics and video production. Definitely an interesting thought!

For now I’m happy to start my new job… I need to complete my thesis and then if I find extra time I might consider an internship at a TV station or something along those lines – we’ll see what doors open & then just go from there. =)
