We’re Moving To…

golden-gate-bridge

San Francisco! Actually to Burlingame – a town about 20 minutes south of the city.

It’s not something we planned to do even six months ago, but it feels right, so we’re taking a leap of faith and heading out West!

Our house officially went up for sale yesterday and we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that it sells by the end of the year since that’s when we’d like to be packing up a truck for California.

I’m really excited to be going back to the west coast since I grew up in California & Oregon and most of my friends & family are still there… but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that Milwaukee has definitely grown on me over the past 5 years.

There’s no doubt that Wisconsin winters are brutal though – my first year I complained every.single.day about the insanity of living in a place where local news forecasters can compare daily lows to temperatures in Moscow. I swore I’d never get used to it, but somehow, the frozen tundra slowly won me over and Milwaukee became my home.

I won the jackpot in terms of in-laws so leaving Nick’s family behind will be really hard – we’re used to having everyone just down the road and it’s sad to think that the kids won’t be able to see their grandparents, uncles, aunties, and cousins all the time. Losing those direct connections is definitely the biggest downside of increased mobility but we know we’ll stay in close contact and will come back to visit often.

The upside is it’s only a 9 hour drive to my family in Oregon and we think it’s a place where folks will want to come to visit us. (The whole time I’ve been in the Midwest I’ve only managed to lure a few people out to see me and hope to have better luck in SF… there are no excuses people!)

So, why move across the country?

Basically there are just more opportunities out there (especially in the tech space) so we decided now is the time to try and make it happen. Right now I’m working with two friends on GLMPS, a photo-video app, and our plan is to launch from SF at the end of June so I’ll be going back and forth over the summer as we grow the company.

We have to wait until Peach’s adoption is finalized before we can uproot the whole family, but things are moving along on that front and it looks like it’ll go through sometime between August and October.

In the past month I’ve gone to Mom 2.0 in New Orleans and was just at FitBloggin and have meant to write about all the amazing people and experiences but I just haven’t had the energy. Thanks to my friend Cecily who knew I could use some relaxation time with everything going on and hooked me up with a spa package from her client BodyLogicMD while we were in NOLA together… getting extra time in with friends Kristen and Aimee made the spa even better.

There are a lot of moving parts right now (literally and figuratively) as we try and plan for our family’s next chapter, so I’m just trying to stay focused on one thing at a time since I know the next few months will fly by and suddenly I’ll be writing from a new home in Burlingame.
